How Do I Get My License Back After a DUI in Arizona?

Step 1: Understand Your Suspension or Revocation

The Arizona Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) determines the length and type of your license suspension based on factors such as your Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) at the time of arrest and whether it was your first offense or a repeat DUI.

  • First DUI Offense: License suspension for 90 days (eligible for a restricted license after 30 days)
  • Second DUI Offense: License suspension for one year
  • Aggravated DUI: License revocation for at least one year

To check your license status, visit the Arizona MVD website or contact them directly.

Step 2: Complete Your DUI Penalties

Before reinstating your license, you must fulfill all court-ordered penalties, which may include:

  • Fines and Fees: Pay all fines, court fees, and MVD reinstatement fees.
  • Traffic Survival School (TSS): If required, complete an MVD-approved Traffic Survival School course to improve your driving skills and meet state requirements.
  • Ignition Interlock Device (IID): Many DUI convictions require installing an MVD-approved ignition interlock device in your vehicle for 6 months to 2 years.
  • SR-22 Insurance: You may need to obtain SR-22 insurance, a certificate of financial responsibility, to prove you meet Arizona’s minimum car insurance requirements.

Step 3: Apply for License Reinstatement

Once you’ve met all requirements, you can apply to have your license reinstated through the Arizona MVD.

How to Reinstate Your License:

  1. Pay the Reinstatement Fee – Fees vary depending on your violation, but typically range from $50 to $150.
  2. Provide Proof of Completion – Submit certificates for DUI classes, Traffic Survival School, and Ignition Interlock installation.
  3. Obtain SR-22 Insurance (if required) – Your insurer must send proof directly to the MVD.
  4. Request License Reinstatement – Apply online at Arizona MVD’s website or visit a local MVD office.

Step 4: Drive Responsibly & Stay Compliant

Once your license is reinstated, avoid future violations by:

  • Following all Arizona traffic laws
  • Never driving under the influence
  • Regularly maintaining your Ignition Interlock Device (if required)
  • Completing any additional MVD requirements

At Olympus Traffic Survival School, we help you meet MVD requirements by offering MVD-approved Traffic Survival School courses and Ignition Interlock services to get you back on the road—fast and hassle-free.
